Psychology at Work,
Empowering Performance

Successful organisations recognise the need to make the most of their best asset, their people. Psychology is increasingly being used in the workplace to develop resilient staff who can adapt easily to change, and to help boost productivity through increased motivation and engagement.

The Warehouse

“. . .participants are applying The Challenge of Change techniques and are experiencing immediate positive pay-off, our business as a whole is benefiting from this change.”

The Warehouse is one of New Zealand’s largest retailers and aims to attract and retain the best people and then create an environment where they are supported and encouraged to do their best. We run an annual talent indentification programme and those identified as high performers with high potential are invited onto accelerated leadership development programmes. Our Core purpose is to make a difference to people’s lives by making the desirable affordable and supporting NZ’s communities and environment. We will enjoy success through working together as one team. People who choose to work for us do so because we care about and recognise individuals.

Jane Davis, Head of Talent Management
“For the last nine months we have been running a Senior Leadership Development Programme.  One of the aims of this programme is to develop holistic leaders who fully understand themselves and the impact their behaviour has on others. Derek worked with these nine key leaders for two days, running the core Challenge of Change Resilience Training in the mornings and providing more focused Team Development in the afternoons.

The Challenge of Change made an immediate impact on these Senior Managers. For some it has been a life changing experience and three participants have already chosen to extend the CoC workshop to their individual teams. We have seen significant behavioural changes at this senior level and participants have openly commented that this has been as a direct result of The Challenge of Change.

The training is simple, clear and visual and gives participants immediate techniques they can use. I would say some participants have gone from not coping very well with the demands of their roles prior to the programme, to coping very well within weeks of completing The Challenge of Change. They are applying the techniques they have been taught and are experiencing immediate positive pay off, and our business as a whole is benefiting from this change.”
