Derek RogerDr Derek Roger is a leading business psychologist, executive coach, author and speaker. Qualifying initially in clinical psychology, Derek has enjoyed a distinguished academic career. His ground-breaking research at the University of York in England has made him one of the world’s leading experts on stress. Derek applies his significant experience at the cutting edge of psychology to working situations in an insightful and commercially relevant manner.

Initiated - 20 year Research Programme

Derek Roger was appointed to the Psychology Department at the University of York in 1977.  Drawing on his expertise in personality and psychometrics, Derek initiated an innovative programme of research on stress and health and established the internationally-renowned Stress Research Unit at the University of York. Derek directed and led the Unit which was funded continuously for over 20 years by UK grant-awarding bodies, which in turn funded programmes for a number of Research Fellows as well as attracting international visiting researchers.

Move to New Zealand

After an enjoyable and life-changing holiday in New Zealand, Derek and his wife, Gwen, decided to emigrate and in 2003 made New Zealand their home, settling in idyllic Banks Peninsula. His move here is a significant coup for those NZ businesses and organisations able to tap into the expertise of a unique business psychologist of considerable international standing and calibre.

Ongoing Research

The research programme Derek initiated at the University of York is ongoing, and he currently holds an Adjunct Associate Professorship at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch as well as a Visiting Research Fellowship at the University of York. His research interests include psychoneuroimmunolgy, focusing particularly on the moderating role of psychosocial factors in stress and health. Derek also has research interests in psychometrics, particularly factor analysis, and in Forensic Psychology.

Published Findings
